St. John of the Cross Dark night of the soul
This work is very useful for those who want to understand contemplation and the interior life.
Br. Doug Monroe explained to me that the reference, “Dark night, my house being now all stilled”. The house is his human nature. The dark night is the divine nature. The person, united to divinity, leaves his senses (house). The divine nature does not need senses.
Although we dispose ourselves, it is God drawing us first, and doing the work. John 15:5, Hebrew 12:1-3
God operates, we cooperate: “Convert us, O Lord, to Thee, and we shall be converted: renew our days, as from the beginning” (Lamentations 5:21)
